STATUE OF SVETOZAR MILETIĆ A SYMBOL OF CIVIC NOVI SAD
The statue of Svetozar Miletić stands prominently at Liberty Square, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the heart of Novi Sad.
Svetozar Miletić was a prominent Serbian politician, lawyer, and mayor of Novi Sad in the 19th century, known for his fight for the rights of Serbs in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and for strengthening civic society.
The monumental equestrian sculpture was created by Ivan Meštrović. Miletić’s figure on horseback symbolizes strength, dignity, and determination, while its central location highlights his importance to the city’s identity.
Today, this statue also serves as a meeting point and a recognizable part of Novi Sad’s urban life.
